Blackjack Starters
First of all for someone who hasn’t played Black jack ever or any type of card game in the casino, here are a few terms you should educate yourself with:
1. Chips- these will serve as your money
2. Stand – this is your option when you want to keep your laid cards
3. Hit – is your option when you want the dealer to lay you another card
4. Busting – when cards are higher than 21
5. Push – when the dealer ties with the player and returns his bet
6. Shoe – a box containing 4 to 8 decks of cards
7. upcard – dealer’s card facing up
8. hole card – dealer’s card facing down
9. soft 17 – a hand that includes an ace valued as 11 (ex. Ace+6, or Ace+2+4)
10. “blackjack” or “natural- highest possible hand (an ace and a ten-value card). –player automatically wins unless dealer also has a “black jack”
11. Insurance – side bet when dealer has an ace upcard (possibility of a blackjack). The insurance bet pays 2-to-1 if the dealer has a blackjack
12. Double down – player is allowed to double his initial bet in exchange for limiting himself to getting only one more card from the dealer. (put double down chips next to the original bet chips and not on top)
13. Split a pair – when the first 2 cards are a pair meaning they have the same value then he can split the cards into 2 equal bets by placing additional chips.
14. Surrender – an option a player can take when dealer lays a possibility of a blackjack.
And here are some Blackjack tips:
* The player can take as many hits as he wants as long as the total is not above hard-20.
* Value of cards: 2-9 , then 10 for the Jack, Queen or King, the Ace is either 1 or 11 depending on the choice of the player.
* If a dealer has less than 17 he must hit, if he has 17 or more he must stand.
* There are minimum and maximum bets depending on what’s posted on the table. The pay for a player’s blackjack is 3:2
* The object of the game is to beat the dealer. Whoever gets closer to 21 without exceeding 21 wins. The higher hand wins! Happy gambling! Just remember to know when to walk away.
